How To Take ESL Classes
Follow these steps to register for ESL classes. Contact ESL Registration for questions.
Step 1: Submit a Noncredit Application
IMPORTANT: You MUST submit a noncredit application BEFORE coming to campus. If your application is not submitted when you come to campus, you may have to come
back another day to complete orientation and placement testing.

Please allow 7-10 business days (Monday-Friday) for your application to be processed. We are closed on holidays, including Fridays during summer.

Step 2: Log in to Your Mt. SAC Portal

Check your personal email! When your application has been processed, you will receive an email from ESLreg@mtsac.edu with instructions to log in to your student portal. (Check your spam folder.)
Log in to your student portal and check your Mt. SAC email (Mountie Mail). You will receive an orientation assessment email invitation from ESLreg@mtsac.edu.

Step 3: Complete Orientation & Placement Test
IMPORTANT: You MUST submit a noncredit application (Step 1) BEFORE coming to campus. If your application is not submitted when you come to campus, you may have to come
back another day to complete orientation and placement testing.
Bring your orientation assessment email invitation when you come for orientation and placement testing on the Mt. SAC campus. The email lists testing days and times.
Complete orientation and placement testing.
- The placement test determines which level of classes is best for you. Placement test scores are valid for two years.
- If you are a returning student and have not taken any ESL classes or the ESL placement
test for more than two years, you will need to retake the placement test.
Step 4: Register for Classes

After completing the placement test, you will register for classes. If classes are full, you will be placed on the waiting list. Classes are free.
Log in to your Mt. SAC portal. Check your schedule (see Student Tab - #11 Print Your Schedule/Receipt).
Attend class!
